Variety Wedding Dress Patterns

He's "popped the question" and you're ready to hit the bridal shops for that wedding dress. But where do your start? There are so many wedding dress patterns to choose from.

Well, a good place to start is with a few of the many bridal magazines that are published today. This will give you a good idea of current styles and you'll find ideas for both traditional full white wedding dresses and the huge range of fresh and fun patterns that the brand name manufacturers are offering.

One thing you will need to consider right from the outset is just what sort of wedding dress will suit you best in terms of both your personality and figure. In this latter respect you'll need to remember that any dress can look great in a magazine, on a model or even simply on the hanger, but it might not look quite so good when you put it on.

There are hundreds of ways in which designers can change the look of a basic dress pattern but, underlying the finished product, there are basically four main wedding dress patterns that are seen today.
Variety Wedding Dress Patterns
The first is the "Ball Gown". This is the pattern of the traditional white wedding dress, which remains extremely popular, and consists of a fitted bodice and tight waistline leading into a full bell shaped skirt.

The second is the "Empire" gown. This has a high waistline coming right up under the chest and the dress falls away into a somewhat slimmer skirt than that seen in the ball gown. This pattern of dress is also designed to enhance the bust and can be cut in a traditional or modern style.

The third pattern is the "A-line Princess" dress. This is often described as a vertical form of dress with lines flowing down from the shoulder and is particularly popular as it flatters a wide range of different body types. Just about any bride will feel happy wearing this pattern and will appreciate the way in which it accentuates the body.

The final style is the "Sheath" dress. As its name suggests this is a very close fitting and slimming dress which will certainly not suit everybody. The sheath style of wedding dress is very much a modern style and for those that can carry it will certainly make a lasting impression on not only the groom but also the wedding guests.

These four different patterns can of course be made up into an endless variety of different finished wedding dress patterns and can come in many different colors and lengths, with or without sleeves, with high or low necklines, full backs or no backs at all and so on.

Whatever you choose the most important thing to remember is that this is your special day. So, choose a dress that suits you and your personality and that make you feel great.

Wedding Dress Patterns

One way to get the designer dress you have always dreamed of is to make it yourself or have someone you know make it for you. Even if you hire out the sewing job, it will be cheaper than actually buying that designer gown that you saw some movie star wear on a magazine cover.

You would choose a wedding dress pattern in the same way you would choose a wedding dress from a boutique. Choose a style that you love and that is good for your body type. One way you can do this if you are not sure if it will suit your body type is to go to a boutique, find a similar style, and try it on.

The best way to find the best patterns is to visit several pattern maker's Internet websites or call and ask for a catalog of wedding dress patterns. When you get the catalogs you can start looking for the dream gown that you want. You can also look at the bridal salons to get an idea of what you want and then look for the pattern. You will be using a bridal salon to order the bridesmaids dresses anyway so it causes no harm.

Since you have decided to sew your own dress or have one made for you, you may be wondering how much it will cost to have it made. There are a few considerations that will help to determine that such as the type of fabric you will be using to make your dress. Fabrics can be pricey, and wedding gowns have many different types of fabrics in them as a rule. For example most dresses are made of satin and lace with tulle underneath.

Do your research and watch for fabric sales at fabric stores and online. Fabric can run from about $4.00 per yard and up. You can even find wedding gowns that are being sold very inexpensively that you might be able to use several things off of on your own gown.

The second consideration is whether you will be making the gown or hiring the sewing job out to someone else. If you will be doing the sewing yourself, the cost will be just materials. If you hire a seamstress, you will have to look around for one that has rates that you can afford. It will run you two to five hundred dollars depending on the complexity of the design, and the detail that will need to go into it.

There will be many fittings, and design aspects of the dress that you will have to decide on. Do you want a long train and if so you will need a bustle. You also need to make a veil which is not hard to do, and you can match it perfectly to your gown by using some accents on it that are used on your gown. You can also purchase a veil.

Wedding Dress Patterns

Shopping for wedding dress patterns can be just as daunting a task as shopping for a dress off the rack, even more so, if you will be sewing the dress yourself. There are so many things to consider when looking for just the right wedding dress pattern so that you will be the most stunning of brides on your wedding day.
Wedding Dress Patterns
The good news it that since you or someone else will making the dress from scratch, you will have total control over how your wedding dress will look on your most special day. You will have a custom creation that is unique and designed especially for you alone.

Here are some things to consider when shopping for wedding dress patterns.

The first thing to consider is the style of your wedding. Will it be a traditional wedding, or will you being doing something a little more out of the ordinary and have a themed wedding, such as a Celtic wedding? This of course dictates which type of wedding dress pattern you will be looking for.

Another consideration when looking for your wedding dress pattern will be the location of your wedding. Will it be indoors, or outdoors? If you will be having your wedding outdoors, you will want to consider the time of year and season. If it is in the fall or winter you will want to choose a pattern that help keep you warm, if it is spring or summer you will want something that will help keep you cool. The pattern in conjunction with the fabric that you choose will make a big difference as to your comfort on your special day.

You will want your wedding dress to show off your figure to it's best advantage. Listed below are the 4 basic body types and the goals that you want to keep in mind for yourself based on your body type when choosing your pattern:

Wedding Dress Patterns
Triangle -

your hips are wider than your bust and shoulders. Your goal will be to minimize your lower body and create the illusion of additional upper body width.

Reverse Triangle -

your upper body is wider than your lower body. Your goal will be to emphasize lower body width.

Hourglass -

Wedding Dress Patterns
your bust and hips are larger than your small waist. Your goal will be to create balance.

Rectangle -

your body is long and narrow without a strongly defined waistline. Your goal will be to emphasize width and avoid long vertical lines.

Pick a wedding dress pattern that emphasizes those body features that you want to play up or down.

Since you want your wedding dress to be the most flattering of dresses, there are other things to think about as well, such as the color of the wedding dress.

You want to pick a color that looks the best on you if you are not going with a white or off-white traditional wedding gown. You will want to consider your skin color when picking out your dress color. Your skin color will greatly affect how the gown looks on you. A bride with a lighter skin color has more choices than a bride with a darker skin color.

For brides with a lighter skin color, white or a dress in a darker color will result in a very lovely appearance. Brides with a darker skin color will want to choose their colors while also considering their make up also for the most beautiful appearance. If you have darker skin and do not consider your make up while choosing your fabric and during your fittings, you will not have a true reflection of how you will look on your wedding day.

Since you are making your own dress or having it made, you will be able to embellish it any way you choose. Brides can make fashion statements with fabric. You can range from delicate draping to more dramatic ruffles and fabric flowers. Ruffles, ribbon, ruching, gathering, pleats, fabric flowers, and draping are all special details that you can add to your gown. Just remember to keep your body type in mind when picking your embellishments.
