Flowers are traditionally part of wedding centerpieces, and it's easy to find flowers in most wedding colors. Green is the exception. Hydrangeas are some of the few flowers that are actually green. They come in many shades and colors, from pink to green. Since they are rather large and round, a few hydrangeas in a vase can make a simple centerpiece. Or they can be combined with ferns and greenery to make a fuller centerpiece.
Many houseplants are easy to start and grow and provide plenty of green for a centerpiece. Vining plants, like ivies and philodendron, can be spaced down the table and the vines trailed between them. Twinkle lights or votive candles can add a light element. Combining several types of houseplants can make a visually appealing centerpiece. These centerpieces could also be used as gifts. The choice of pots for the plants could reflect the theme of the wedding.
Greenery doesn't have to be just for Christmas. Evergreen boughs make a quick, easy and inexpensive centerpiece. The feel of the centerpiece is determined by the type of greenery used. Try using atriplex, cedar, arborvitae and white pine for a variety of colors and textures, or just use whatever you have access to. Martha Stewart suggests using lots of greenery and keeping the branches hidden in the container you are placing the arrangement in. Evergreen boughs don't have to be placed in water, so that expands your options for containers to include things like baskets.
